Our Memories of Rabbi Beller

He was one of the most special people we ever met and he made us (and probably everyone else) believe that he felt the same way. He always had a big smile and hello for us and knew the whole family by name, even though we weren’t in Shivtei (the synagogue in which he served). He’d ask about our kids and I know he was genuinely interested.

His enthusiasm for learning and teaching, for deepening people's spiritual connection and their ties to each other was legendary. He had his own unique way of bringing people closer to Judaism and seemed to know the best approach for each person. With Danya and the other kids in Meitarim, the film course was the magic key. With my son Matan, it was his rendition of יום זה מכובד. The first time Yadin and I met him, he won us over with his funny impersonations. He followed up those opening acts by imparting a love of Judaism and teaching the texts and traditions. I remember a wonderful series of classes he gave in our home when we studied Rabbi Sack’s book with a group of friends.
